How to Shift Your Money Mindset

How to shift your money mindset. Do you struggle when it comes to your money mindset? The key to manifesting money starts with shifting your money mindset. In today’s post I am sharing ways to shift your limiting beliefs when it comes to money.

I love this topic because for the longest time I really struggled with my own money mindset. I’m not perfect and sometimes I find myself slipping back into old ways, but when you become aware of your money mindset and you actively try to create positive shifts, you start to attract more abundance into your life. The results have been incredible!

I know a lot of people HATE talking about money and finances. It makes a lot of people uncomfortable and I think it’s because we attach our value and worth to how much money we have.

So if you are ready to attract money into your life, then let’s jump into it!

Shifting Your Money Mindset

First, what is money? In this world that we live in, everything is energy. When you shift your perspective to recognize that we are all energy and everything is energy, you start to recognize that we can easily attract things by shifting our frequency. Money is vibrating at a higher frequency and in order to attract money into your life, you need to match that frequency. I’ll be mentioning ways to raise your vibration later on in this post.

Something else to recognize is that money has no value. Money having value is just a human concept. We, as humans, give money value and meaning. This goes for everything in life. Everything’s just energy and humans give it value.

So when you think about money, it’s not that the money itself is of importance to you right? It’s what the money allows you to do and feel that is of importance.

Money makes us feel secure because when we have money in our life, we are able to pay our bills, eat, and essentially survive.

Often times, because money represents to us this idea that we “can’t survive without it.” We tend to go into this “survival mode mentality” because of it. This is something society has pushed upon us for a really long time now and it’s become this conditioned belief collectively that we need to work really hard in order to receive money. Most of us are working more than we are spending time with family and friends, or more than we are truly enjoying life.

It’s these mindsets that we want to shift because it’s these mindsets that are holding us back. They are limiting beliefs. The thing is, the reason we have to work so hard to receive money is because that’s what we believe to be true.

Now I know this might sound insane and unrealistic to a lot of people because it’s hard for people to believe that there’s a different reality that exists outside of the current narrative that is pushed, but our thoughts create our reality.

If you believe that you need to work hard, that your job isn’t supposed to be enjoyable, and that you can’t receive money unless you are worthy of it based on society’s standards, then that’s the reality that will play out for you. That’s the energetic signal you are putting out in the universe, so that’s the energy that’s attracted and reflected back to you.

Once you recognize this, you have the potential to completely flip the script and change your narrative.

Limiting Money Beliefs

These conditioned beliefs came from somewhere right? Let’s go back to where these beliefs really were created.

A lot of our current money mindsets are conditioned beliefs that we picked up throughout our life, specifically during childhood.

If you can, I want you to grab a pen and paper and I want you to write out:

  • Parents
  • Grand parents
  • Family members
  • Friends
  • Society
  • People of influence and importance to you

And then next to each, I want you to write out any money mindsets and beliefs that each of these people have. How do they view money? How do they react to money? How do they handle money? How do they speak about money?

For example, growing up I watched my parents struggle when it came to money. It was often the cause of a lot of their arguments. This created this belief within me that money causes problems and fights.

I also heard “we can’t afford this” a lot. My family isn’t wealthy. When my parents divorced I watched my mom in survival mode. She worked all the time, multiple jobs, and even when she was home she was working to the point of exhaustion. She was always a hard worker

This created a belief within me that you had to work really hard to afford just the necessities of life. That you had to burn yourself out to exhaustion to get by.

For a long time I held some kind of resentment towards money because I watched my family stress, argue, and at times burn out because of money or the lack of money.

As a child it’s really easy to pick up on beliefs that our parents had and often times as a child we are told “no” a lot.

If you wanted a new toy often the answer was “no, we can’t afford this.” If you always heard that growing up, your mind is programmed in a way to believe that you can’t have new things. To believe that you can’t afford what you want and to believe that money causes problems. Since that’s what your mind is conditioned to believe, that’s what plays out for you in your reality.

The key here is to get to the root of your limiting money beliefs and figure out why you think this to be true. Once you figure that out, really allow yourself to look at these beliefs from a new perspective.

How do you shift your money mindset?

Sometimes shifting your money mindset makes people uncomfortable, but you need to go outside of your comfort zone in order to break those limited ways of thinking so you can allow yourself to open your heart to the abundance that is meant for you.

I promise the universe doesn’t want us to be without. The universe wants us to live abundantly, but the only way we can do that is if we allow it. If you have these mindsets that reflect being closed off to receiving, the the universe is going to honor that.

Here’s another limiting belief example,

Maybe you believe that if you have more money, then that means there’s less money for others. This makes you feel bad about obtaining more, or you feel bad about wanting more.

But the truth is, money is energy and there is more than enough to go around.

Just because someone else has more, doesn’t mean someone else can’t have more too.

There’s enough to go around, so you would have to shift that way of thinking. Let go of the guilt and shame you may have when it comes to receiving more money.

You don’t need to be worthy of money to receive it

A lot of us live in a society where we are conditioned to believe that in order to be worthy of money, we need to work hard. If you aren’t working really hard and burning yourself out, then you don’t deserve money. There’s always these arguments over who is worthy of money and who isn’t.

You see people constantly fighting over minimum wage increases and saying things like, “well I don’t think it’s fair for someone who didn’t go to college to be making x amount of money.”

But that’s a conditioned, limited way of thinking that society has pushed upon us. Society wants us to believe that in order to be worthy of receiving money we need to do x, y, and z because it helps them make more.

They want us to believe that because someone has a college education they are more worthy of receiving money than someone who doesn’t have that college degree. Going to college was something that has always been pushed upon many of us because it keeps a lot of us in that cycle of conditioned thinking.

And let me be clear, I am not saying that going to college is frowned upon or that I am against going to college.

Education is so important! However, what I am saying is that you don’t have to be worthy of receiving money because money just is, it’s energy. All you have to do is raise your own vibration and frequency to attract it into your life and believe that you are worthy already. That you are worthy to receive it because you are YOU. Not because you did x, y, z.

Often times we even attach our worth to how much money is in our bank account or how much money our career pays us. We need to learn how to remove these limiting ways of thinking.

You could have that college degree and still not attract money into your life because of your money mindset.

Shift your perspective. I can’t stress this enough. Let go of thinking you need to be worthy in order to receive. That’s just a matter of perception right?

You don’t have to burn yourself out to receive money. You just have to allow yourself to be open to receive.

Evaluate your own money mindsets

Once you figure out what money beliefs and mindsets the people you are surrounded by have, the next step is to take a serious and honest look at your own. What mindsets of theirs have you taken on as your own?

When someone asks you, do you believe you can make a million dollars this year? What would your answer be? If the answer is no, then ask yourself why you believe you can’t?

What about $100,000? What if someone asked you do you think you can make an extra $1,000 this month? Do you believe you can? If not? Why?

Do you believe you can save an extra $500 next month? Yes or no? Why not?

Do you believe you have to work hard to receive money? Do you believe that if you have more, others have less because of you? Do you believe that money is evil and that people who have money are selfish and greedy? Do you believe that you have to hoard all of your money and you can’t spend it, that you have to just save it and be super frugal?

These are the questions you have to ask yourself in order to figure out your limiting money beliefs that may be holding you back. The universe is going to give you the same energy that you put out.

Lack to abundant mindsets

The key to creating a money mindset that attracts is to shift from a lack mindset to an abundant mindset.

Examples of lack mindsets would be:

  • “I’ll finally feel financially stable when I have x amount of dollars”
  • “I can’t afford this.”
  • “I never have enough money”
  • “I need more money”
  • “I’ll be happy when I finally have more money”
  • “I am broke.”

Another way we actually create a lack mindset is when we compare ourselves to others and pass judgments.

Let me ask you this:

You are looking at a celebrity who is sitting in their mansion sharing content online. What are your thoughts? Do you go into this mindset of “must be nice to have all that money to be able to do whatever you want”

Do you get envious and jealous that they have all of this money? Are you quick to label them as a bad person because of it? Do you start to make judgments because of their financial status that you think you know about?

Do you start to feel bad about yourself because you so badly want that mansion and believe that you’ll never be able to live a life similar to how they are living?

These thoughts and feelings can point towards a lack mindset and a reflection of your limiting beliefs.

Envy, jealousy, and judgment are emotions that we feel as humans, but they are lower vibrational emotions. They aren’t doing us any favors when it comes to attracting money into our life. We need to try to let go of these reactions to other peoples’ wealth.

The way we feel about other people who are wealthy is just a reflection of our own money belief system. Your reality is your inner reflection. The universe reflects back the energy you give and often it reflects back what we believe to be true. Even our unhealed wounds, which is why it’s so important to be honest with ourselves and really ask ourselves, what do I believe to be true?

Sometimes it’s hard to take accountability for those emotions and judgements, but it is so freeing to become self aware of these reactions. Doing so allows us the opportunity to re-create our belief system and step into an abundant mindset.

So when you see someone who is wealthy, let go of reacting from a place of jealousy, anger, frustration, judgement and lack.

Instead, start feeling happy for them.

The universe tests your mindset

If you are seeing other people achieving things you want, it means it’s possible for you because you create all of these experiences. Especially if you are wanting to manifest something into your life. Let’s say you want to manifest a new career and suddenly everyone around you is getting new jobs or sharing how thrilled they are that they finally scored a new position at their dream job. It’s because you created those experiences within your mind and they are manifesting around you.

The universe TESTS us. It wants to see how we react when others are getting what we want. It’s all tests.

The more you start rooting for others, the more your reality starts to shift and will reflect those high vibrational emotions back to you. Soon it will be your turn!

My first challenge for you when it comes to shifting your money mindset is to start clapping for other people’s success. Stop passing judgment on those who have money because as soon as you pass judgment on someone who has money, you create that mindset block for yourself. The universe will then respond to that.

I also challenge you to shift the way you view people who have money. Let’s face it, there are people out there who are going to have more than us and there are people out there who are going to have less. It’s the way life works.

But if you believe that everyone who is wealthy is bad, then you create this belief that being wealthy is bad. This subconsciously holds you back from being wealthy because you have this doubt.

Here’s a money mindset shift:

It’s not the money that is bad, because money is just energy. People aren’t bad because they have money. They are perspectively bad based on their actions. The money isn’t actually making someone do bad things. They are doing those bad things because of whatever mindsets and beliefs they have based off of their own life experiences and perspectives.

People who are wealthy have many opportunities to give back and it’s up to that person if they choose to act that way or not.

Again, it’s all perspective. Just because you live a wealthy lifestyle doesn’t always mean you are wealthy.

You can make one million dollars a year and live a lifestyle that has you maxing out.

At the end of the day, we need to let go of paying so much attention on how other people are living their life because it’s just keeping us distracted.

At the end of the day, do you believe you can be wealthy and how are you going to give back? How are you going to show up and do good for the collective because the universe always rewards us when we are giving back with pure intentions. You have to give to receive.

Control your reactions

The next point I want to focus on is controlling the way you react to unexpected money problems.

Remember how I said the universe is always testing us? Unexpected money problems is definitely one of those tests.

I’ve been faced with this test many times before

A great way to shift your money mindset is by becoming aware of your reactions and the way you respond to unexpected situations. Having faith that the universe is going to provide for you is the best way to respond to unexpected problems.

I know it can feel like the end of the world when you have an unexpected bill pop up when you don’t have enough money in your bank account to cover it, but instead of focusing on the fact that you don’t have enough, shift your mindset to “it’s going to be okay. I know the universe is going to show up and provide me with more than enough to help with this unexpected bill.”

It’s so important to not put so much focus on what we are lacking because as soon as you start focusing heavily on the lack of money you feel you have, the more that energy is going to get reflected back to you. This often leads to noticing more lack in your life.

Shift the way you respond to those unexpected situations and see if it changes anything for you.

Shift the way you spend money

How do you spend your money? Do you spend it in a way where you struggle to let it go? Do you hold on to all of your money and manage it in very frugal ways?

Often this can actually hold us back. When our actions reflect a mindset that believes we can’t afford to spend our money and that we have to be extremely cautious with our spending, this keeps us in a lack mentality.

I am not saying to spend recklessly, but try to get into the habit of letting go of believing that if you spend your money, it won’t come back to you. Scarcity mindsets and actions that reflect a scarcity mindset will put out that energetic signal to the universe and scarcity will get reflected back to you.

Shift your mindset to believing that the money you put out into the world will always come back because money is energy and it is not limited. It is always flowing. There is an abundance of money available for you, there is no need to hold on tightly.

I know letting go is scary for a lot of people because a lot of us have control issues when it comes to our finances, especially if we grew up in environments where money was limited due to circumstances and beliefs that our parents had.

The great thing is, we can break those beliefs and patterns, but our actions need to also reflect the money mindset shifts that we are trying to make.

So I challenge you to shift the way you spend your money. I find that at the end of the day it’s not about buying the most expensive brand or the most affordable. It’s about buying the product that has the best quality because we are telling ourselves and the universe that we are worth quality.

Quality is so important right?

Even in relationships. We want quality friends that raise our vibration. The same goes for what we buy. When we are spending money on quality items, we create a higher frequency and the universe acts accordingly.

So I challenge you to stop buying the cheapest brand and allow yourself to buy a quality product. Sometimes we have to start small because everyone’s current money situation is going to be different. You don’t have to start big. You can start with your toothpaste or the brand of ice cream you buy. Whatever it is you choose to start with, choose quality.

Be open to receiving money

The next thing I want to ask you is, how do you respond when people offer you money?

I really thought about this in my own life and it got me thinking. Since I grew up watching my mom being so independent, especially financially, I started to adapt that mentality.

Asking for money always made me uncomfortable. Therefore asking for a raise would make me uncomfortable and pricing my services often made me uncomfortable. I would price them way below the value because I struggled when it came to asking for money.

Often times we close ourselves off from being open to receiving money without even realizing.

Let’s say you are at a coffee shop and the person in front of you decides to pay for your coffee.

How do you respond? Do you say, “No, you don’t have to do that.” Do you feel bad about them paying for you? Or do you accept the generous payment and thank them for their generosity.

I think back to when I was a server and I will never forget this one experience I had.

There was a young boy who came in and was sat in my section by himself. He was extremely quiet and sat there playing his game boy and at the end of his meal the bill came to maybe $20.

I go to cash him out and I realized that he was leaving me a $100 tip. I was in such disbelief. I thought this had to be a mistake, so I went back to the table and told him that I think he made a mistake.

He assured me that he didn’t and that I was all set and I insisted that he take some of this tip back because at the time I felt bad about taking the tip he wanted to give me. This was me sending out this energetic signal of “no, I can’t have more.”

Do you see where I am going with this? When people offer us money, or when money comes to us in unexpected ways, accept it. Don’t close yourself off to it. Be open to receiving unexpected money and generous offers and always be thankful.

In fact, gratitude is SO important when it comes to money mindset. Always being grateful for what you DO have keeps us from falling into those lack mindsets.

When you have the opportunity to give to others, DO IT! Our actions say a lot about our mindsets and the universe always rewards actions that are from a genuine heart space.

These are just some ways that you can start shifting your money mindset to allow yourself to be open to receiving abundance.

Until next time
