Q&A with Ell – Blogtober day 4
Wow, it’s blogtober day 4 and I am still kickin’ it! Super shocked with myself to say the least. Anyways, I asked you guys on twitter to ask me questions for a Q&A post! I got so many great questions to answer! Some are personal, others are more related to blogging. If you want to be involved in any of my collaborations etc. be sure to follow me on Twitter! Now let’s get onto the questions (:

Q: what is your favorite movie to watch in autumn?
A: I absolutely love watching Hocus Pocus & Halloweentown! Such classics from my childhood that get me excited for the season! Honestly, curious to hear who actually doesn’t like these two movies?!
Q: if you could give 3 tips to a new blogger what would they be?
A: There are so many blog tips I could give!
- My first tip would be to enjoy the journey! It’s so easy to start your blogging journey wanting everything right away, (the numbers, the money, etc) but it takes time and dedication! So be patient and enjoy what you’re doing, the rest will follow(:
- I would definitely recommend getting started with Pinterest from the beginning! Pinterest was my savior when it came to growing my blog traffic. If you use the proper strategies, you will see a huge improvement! Many ask about where they can find my e-course on my Pinterest strategies. Here it is!
- Don’t let numbers be everything. It’s so easy to get discourage by your numbers, but numbers aren’t everything. We think we need a ton of followers in order to be a “successful” blogger but that’s not true! I get about 27,000 – 30,000 monthly views a month and work full time blogging! Not to mention I started seeing income when I had only 5,000 views on my blog. So NO, you don’t need 100k + monthly views to have an audience that trusts and loves you! & this goes for Instagram too. I started monetizing on Instagram at just 2,000 followers. You don’t need 100k + followers! Don’t let it stress you out so much. I personally think brands would have more success working with micro influencers and bloggers with a smaller audience because they are some of the BEST and most trust worthy people. Oh and another side note when I started my blog back in April 2017 – I only had about 500 blog subscribers when I started seeing income. Now I am at 2,500 subscribers which still isn’t anything mind blowing but you can still make it with a small audience! Don’t stress it!

Q: What is your dream job?
A: My dream job has always been to be my own boss! I really hate the idea that someone else could potentially have control over my life and happiness. Having a boss means you have to go do what you are told, when you are told to do it. There is really no freedom and I am going to be working a majority of my life so why should I be miserable and living life according to someone else’s rules? That’s not what I want, so I pursued my own career and became my own boss and for that I am grateful! Not many can say they are working their dream job! BUT it is possible if you are determined to pursue it.
Q: If you could have done one thing differently when you started your blog, what would you do?
A: Good question! There’s a few things that I would have done differently but blogging is a learning process! When I first started I was on WordPress .com and I think this is my biggest regret, it was such a limited platform and I didn’t have complete ownership over my blog so I decided to switch to self hosting. I am really thankful that I did, but the transfer process and wasted money for WordPress premium plan could have been saved if I started off self hosting from the beginning! P.S if you are wondering about self hosting and who to go with – SITEGROUND all the way! They have an awesome support team and they transferred my site for me when I reached out to their live chat (: Super cheap too, starting at $3.95 a month but if you sign up for at least a year you will save more money!
& again I would have started using Pinterest to market my blog right from the start!
Oh and also I would have more confidence in my abilities because for a while I wasn’t confident, sadly.
Q: What is one thing you can only do when blogging in the fall?
A: Probably blog posts on Apple picking trips or fall tags (: any fall content I could only do in the fall!
Q: What is an activity one who doesn’t like fall would enjoy to help them like fall more?
A: I find hayrides, Apple picking, pumpkin picking, haunted houses, or watching Hocus Pocus usually helps!! Or just visiting New England in the fall because it’s gorgeous! But it’s definitely tricky trying to get someone to enjoy something they don’t like!
Q: Where do you get your inspiration from?
A: It’s funny you mention this because I really didn’t have a true inspiration that got me to start my blog. Back in the day I used to watch youtubers all the time and really wanted to do that. I quickly realized I enjoyed writing more than I enjoyed making videos… I also had a weird addiction to Pinterest. This is probably what sparked my inspiration. I started to realize that Pinterest was made up of a bunch of blogs.
That’s when the idea of blogging came to mind! My mom and best friend pushed me to write more, so I did! I started my blog and read about Facebook groups and thought hmm… I need to make my own! So I did, and boom BossGirlBloggers was born in May 2017! It’s such a random thing that happened in my life but it changed my life around for the better and I couldn’t be more thankful. Before I knew it the community that I created was over 30,000 members. I couldn’t even believe it. I am so thankful to this day for all of my members. Wouldn’t be doing what I love if it wasn’t for them!

Q: Okay Ell, so you don’t like pie, what other holiday desserts do you like if not pie?
A: I do admit that on thanksgiving I will usually eat a piece of pumpkin pie, I’m just not a huge fan of pie crust. A dessert that I do love though is chocolate truffle or cheesecake! P.S it makes me so happy when people remember small details like me not liking pie! (: Love that. Thank you!
Q: If you could experience autumn anywhere, where would it be?
A: I think I got pretty lucky living in New England because in my opinion it’s the best place to witness fall.
Q: Where do you see yourself in five years?
A: In five years I will be 30 (YIKES!) and I hope to have a baby of my own and another one on the way. I hope to be married to my current bf who I have been with for the past 7 years and I hope to be blogging full time still, but with an increase in income. Also hope to have my first house by then.
Q: What is one thing you can’t go without?
A: I can’t go without my coffee daily, probably bad but it’s necessary!!!
Q: What motivates you?
A: I think what motivates me the most is my doubters. The people who doubt my abilities, I constantly want to prove them wrong. I also think my own happiness motivates me. I want to be 100% happy in life and I know with the right mindset, it’s possible.

Q: What blogging services do you use?
A: The only monthly costs for blogging I have are tailwind, canva (biz version), and my yearly self host siteground.
Secret: I’ve never invested in an ecourse. I am a self learner and I learn by trying things out myself. I’ve read maybe a handful of blog posts when I first started on specific areas like (marketing) but I try not to read other posts about blogging because I want my tips to be from my own experience of trial and error. I currently manage and run all of my social media’s, Facebook groups and my blog by myself. Eeek
Q: What hosting site do you use? Why?
A: I use siteground! I really love them because their live chat team has answered all questions and helped me through a lot of tech issues. I also love how their servers are never down, my site has never had any down time which is lovely! They have fast servers too! They are also affordable starting at $3.95 a month. And to top it all off they transferred my site for me at no additional cost, which is amazing and saved me a lot of headaches!
Q: Favorite latte or coffee drink?
A: I usually get a French vanilla ice coffee from my local coffee shop but, if I’m at Starbucks I get venti ice coffee, 3 white mocha, 3 raspberry, shot of espresso and whipped cream (:
Q: Top 3 favorite bloggers and Top 3 favorite youtubers ?
A: I definitely don’t get the time to read as much anymore as I’m always creating and super busy but, I do love Ruth, Kayla, & Natalie
But for YouTube, since I’ve been addicted from the start. I LOVE Casey Holmes, Kathleen lights, and EleventhGorgeous
Q: If you lost all your eyeshadow palettes which one would you repurchase first?
A: Oh man! That’s tough! Probably my Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance palette. I love that palette!
Q: How many hours a day do you work on your blog?
A: lol this is embarrassing but, when I’m not sleeping ? I’m not kidding I spend way too much time on my blog and it’s a serious addiction that I need to start cutting back. I just can’t help it, I love what I do too much!
Q: Have you ever felt like you should give up blogging?
A: Honestly, no. I started off blogging because I was suffering from depression and blogging made me feel like I had purpose again. Then I created my community which helped me keep that purpose feeling going. I quickly was no longer depressed and I was doing something that made me happy. I became addicted and I didn’t want to stop. Are there days where I feel more unmotivated than others? YES 100% but I’ve never wanted to give up! You don’t fail unless you give up in my eyes.
Q: How do you keep Blogtober interesting each year ?
A: I’ve actually only been blogging since April 2017 so this is my first real go at Blogtober! (: Hoping I can finish strong!
Hope you all enjoyed this little Q+A! I had so much fun reading and answering your questions!! Let me know in the comments what you thought! Or if you have any other questions! (:
Until next time!
