5 Tips to Bring Your Blog to the Next Level
Today for TIP TUESDAY I want to share with you 5 (my lucky number) tips that helped me bring my blog to the NEXT level. Meaning – by doing these 5 things, I found my traffic increasing, a rise in subscribers, and overall a more successful blog than before implementing these 5 tips!
Tip Number ONE – Personal Connections
This has to be my ultimate, NUMBER ONE tip! When you have a blog and you are trying to grow your audience, GET PERSONAL. If you build personal connections with your readers, they will connect with you more and will want to continue to read your content!
As human beings we love connecting with others (usually). BUT we only love to connect with those who are friendly and make us feel valued. If your audience is communicating with you, do your part to communicate back! Grow a sense of community with your audience. They are reading your content for a reason! Probably because they enjoy it, so make sure you let them know that you appreciate their support!
ALSO it’s okay to get PERSONAL. In fact, I find that the more personal I am, the more my audience can relate. I don’t know about you but I love a face to the words. If I can connect with the author, put a face to the writing, I can hear their voice in their words. Their message becomes a lot stronger!
SO – Don’t be afraid to:
- Talk to your audience – NEVER IGNORE THEM.
- Add a personal touch – Whether it be an image of you, or a personal post. (YOU ARE THE BRAND.)
- Engage with your audience’s content too! If you engage with those who engage with you, they will be more likely to continue to engage each time!
Tip Number TWO – Don’t Let Your Numbers Consume You
One thing that I did completely wrong when I first started blogging was focusing too much on my numbers! I actually find that too many bloggers fall into this “numbers” trap! YES, I know how badly you may want thousands of followers, and I know you probably wanted them as soon as you started. BUT GUESS WHAT! It’s not going to happen. Unless you buy them (which is BAD BAD BAD) Please don’t ever buy your followers. You will receive crap followers who could care less about your content, so what’s the point?
Instead of worrying about your numbers, focus on putting out the BEST content you can for those who already follow you! The more you focus on your content and those who already love your content, the more your numbers will grow! You have to remember that success doesn’t happen over night. It may not even happen in a year! It’s a slow, growing process but as long as you are doing what you love, it’s worth the wait!
Continue to WOW those who love your content already and the rest will follow! Focusing on the numbers will consume your time that could be spent on making your best content! That does more harm for you than good.
Tip Number THREE – Self Host from the Beginning
If you have been following my blog for a while, this is something you hear me say CONSTANTLY. You are probably so sick of hearing it. I know some may disagree with me, because blogger and squarespace is the “easiest” to use! BUT I am telling you, a self hosted wordpress is probably the BEST thing you could do for your blog overall. It’s worth it to learn wordpress. I PROMISE.
When I first started my blog I was on wordpress .com because I didn’t do my research. I ended up researching a little after and heard about wordpress plugins so I upgraded to the premium plan, thinking I would receive the plug ins…NOPE I WAS WRONG… I wasted money just to find out that in order to get plugins on wordpress .com I needed to have a business plan which was 25$ a month!!! WHAT – PASSSSS…
So then I found out about self hosting a wordpress .org and instantly made the transfer. For just 2.95$ a month I had all the plug ins that I needed to make my blog rock, WITHOUT having to upgrade to the 25$ a month plan thanks to SITE GROUND !!!
If you are on wordpress .com GET OFF! You are over paying and you will still be limited. Self hosting a wordpress allows you to:
Get all the cool plugins like – Yoast SEO (which helps you with SEO), An email list builder (crucial), You can add share buttons (so people can share your blog post to any platform or social media), Add your instagram feed to your blog, and so much more!!!
You can also monetize your blog however you want when you self host. On wordpress .com your choices are limited because some are against the rules. On self hosting you don’t have to worry about any restrictions!
You can design your blog which ever way you’d like! No restrictions or limited themes. If I remember correctly blogger and squarespace are a bit restricted with design.
Most bloggers who have made the transfer to self hosted blogs have been impressed and satisfied! BUT the transfer can be a pain in the a** which is why I always recommend to start off self hosting from the beginning. However – the host I went through made my transfer experience a BREEZE!
I use Site Ground for my host because I truly believe they are the BEST out there. Blue host causes a lot of trouble for most users! Site Ground has yet to give me any issues!

Tip Number FOUR – Treat Your Blog Like it’s Your Job
If you want to have success in blogging, you need to treat your blog like it’s your job already! This is something that’s helped me a ton! For example, you wouldn’t take weeks off from your job so you shouldn’t take weeks off from your blog! Taking a significant amount of time off from blogging causes your readers to “disappear” because you aren’t consistent. If you aren’t consistent with the content you put out, your audience won’t be consistent either. Here’s what I like to do when I am thinking of my blog as a job.
I will use one of my favorite planners and in the beginning of each month I will map out what blog post I want to have up by what day. I keep this planner on my desk or bed side and look at it each day to keep me on task and focused! Planning out my posts a month in advance also helps me prevent writers block, because I always know what I need to write about!
If you write about multiple niches it’s also a cool thing to have a specific day dedicated to each niche. I write about lifestyle, blog tips, and beauty so i’d do something like:
Tip Tuesday: (write about blog tips)
Makeover Monday: Beauty posts
Self Care Sunday: Write about self love and self care
Doing this helps my readers to also know when to look for the posts that relate to what they enjoy reading about. Love doing this.
I also recommend having a set blog posting schedule and sticking to it! For instance, post every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. That way your audience knows when to look for a new blog post from you! It really helps.

Tip Number FIVE – Don’t Lose Site of WHY You Started
We all have a WHY. We all have a reason as to WHY we started our blog. I have seen many bloggers lose focus of their why and just give up. I have also seen many bloggers lose site of themselves too. I don’t want to offend anyone because sometimes these blogs do end up working out but they don’t seem as genuine.
FOR EXAMPLE: Blogs that have all of these posts that just advertise their paid courses. I GET IT, you need to make money… But if your posts are constantly just advertising your products and provide no real value, it get’s old fast. Keep up with producing quality content. You don’t want your blog to look like one big advertisement. Switch up your posts and remember WHY you started. Don’t lose your voice to products that you are constantly promoting. Keep your voice there. Your voice is what your readers will connect with the most, not the products.
ALTHOUGH – some will solely look to bloggers for product recommendations. I guess what I am trying to say is, don’t lose yourself in the money. You should still care about putting out content that isn’t just about the money. Your readers will see right through you.
BUT ALSO hold on tight to your WHY and let your WHY motivate you to succeed and make it to that finish line!
